The year 2020, apart from many good things, brought the headache of coronavirus too. The plague compelled the world to change its ways on social and economic fronts. The fear of unknown took the humanity by its neck. Along with shifts in social norms, the businesses started carving out new methods of hiring and managing human resource across the world. Work-from-home jobs dominated the conventional on-site jobs and the HR specialists are still busy finding compatible ways for the employees and corporations.

New trends in online recruitment and hiring

According to Glassdoor, the top ten companies in the world are hiring online. More than 75 percent of the world’s biggest companies have started hiring online and it seems to be a continuing trend in 2021. The companies have started using their personalized HR management software. Nearly a hundred percent of the employers have got themselves registered with some online job portal. From job advertisements to final induction and necessary training, all the HR jobs are being entertained online. From Microsoft to Total Petroleum and Pfizer to Bayer, every MNC is using online recruitment and training software to meet contemporary challenges.

Flexible working hours is the new norm

Since a huge amount of work is being carried out through work-from-home jobs, the working hours have become quite flexible. Initially, the employees were comfortable with work-from-home jobs. As time passed, the HR managers found that the remote working model is a challenging thing both for the companies and employees. It is therefore anticipated that the HR specialists would work on remote working patterns to safeguard employees’ mental health.

Technical skills are a must for every employee

Soon the employees smelt out the essential requirement of proficiency in technical skills to perform work-from-home jobs. Everybody took initiative to learn the necessary computer skills and software literacy to execute job activities seamlessly. Human Resource specialists first trained the employees to accept technology and new ways of working. Microsoft has received numerous orders from the corporate conglomerates to develop and integrate their specialized software.

Removal of allowances from pay packages

The employees in all the industries have faced pay cuts under the auspices of COVID-19. Though, the situation is improving now. But a few companies have made the employees accept these pay cuts forever. The reasons include stopping the practice of international flights for working, work-from-home jobs, and less economic activity. Though the companies are saving office overheads, yet the trend of minimization of cost has penetrated the bones of the corporate world. In Pakistan, the employees of the textile sector have faced abrupt pay cuts during 2020. The employees are not supposed to receive special allowances in 2021.
